MAG Introduces Fixed Fares and Extra Red-Eye Flights to East Malaysia for CNY 2026

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is rolling out fixed fares and additional red-eye flights between Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia to accommodate increased travel demand during the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2026 peak period.

Additional red-eye flights to Sabah and Sarawak

As part of the festive capacity increase, Malaysia Airlines will operate up to 32 additional red-eye flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) Terminal 1 to key destinations in East Malaysia.

The overnight services will connect Kuala Lumpur with major cities in Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau, as well as Sarawak destinations such as Kuching, Bintulu, Sibu and Miri, in addition to the Federal Territory of Labuan. In total, Malaysia Airlines will operate up to 503 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia during the festive period.

Routes such as Kuala Lumpur – Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur – Kuching are expected to see particularly strong demand.

Fixed fares for Chinese New Year travel

Malaysia Airlines is offering all-in one-way fixed fares starting from RM339 to Sarawak and RM399 to Sabah. These fares are available for purchase from 20 January until 23 February 2026, for travel between 11 and 23 February 2026, exclusively via the airline’s official website and mobile app.

Sister airline Firefly is also introducing fixed fares, starting from RM298 all-in one-way to Sarawak and RM348 to Sabah. Tickets can be purchased from 20 January until 22 February 2026, for travel during the same festive window.

Government airfare subsidy support

In addition to fixed fares, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will support the Malaysian Government’s Chinese New Year airfare subsidy initiative by capping base fares on flights from Kuala Lumpur to East Malaysia.

For travel between 13 and 16 February 2026, base fares will be capped at a maximum of RM569 all-in one-way for Malaysia Airlines Economy Class and RM548 all-in one-way for Firefly flights, helping to keep festive travel affordable and accessible.

Onboard experience and connectivity

Passengers travelling with Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will continue to enjoy complimentary checked baggage, in-flight refreshments and flexible flight change options on selected fare families. Firefly also offers additional convenience by operating flights from both Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) Terminal 1 and Subang Airport (SZB).

For Malaysia Airlines passengers connecting onward, through-checked baggage and an included meal ensure a smooth end-to-end travel experience during the busy festive season.
