Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB)

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is the main airport management company in Malaysia. Established in 1991, the company operates most public airports across the country.

Following its corporatisation in 1992 as Malaysia Airports Berhad, the organisation expanded into one of the leading airport operator groups in the region. In 1999, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad became the first airport operator in Asia to be listed on Bursa Malaysia.

In 2025, Malaysia Airports was delisted from Bursa Malaysia following a privatisation exercise led by Gateway Development Alliance (GDA). The consortium includes major Malaysian government-linked investment institutions, including Khazanah Nasional Berhad through UEM Group Berhad and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

Today, Malaysia Airports manages 39 airports throughout Malaysia. The network includes 5 international airports, 17 domestic airports and 17 STOLports (Short Take-Off and Landing airports). In addition to its Malaysian operations, the group also manages Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Türkiye.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) opened in 1998 and serves as Malaysia’s primary aviation hub. Located in Sepang, approximately 50 km from Kuala Lumpur city centre, the airport is connected to major highways and dedicated rail services.

KLIA consists of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 2 opened in 2014 and is located approximately 2 km from the main terminal. Both terminals are connected by rail and airport shuttle services.

The airport offers international-standard facilities, including passenger lounges, duty-free shopping, restaurants, cafés, transportation services and premium waiting areas. KLIA is capable of handling large wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

Passengers can travel to the airport by car, bus, taxi, KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit. The KLIA Ekspres connects KL Sentral and the airport in approximately 28 minutes, while KLIA Transit takes around 37 minutes.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport is located approximately 8 km from Kota Kinabalu city centre. The airport serves as the main gateway to Sabah and one of the principal entry points to the island of Borneo.

The site was previously known as Jesselton Airfield during World War II. Following several expansion and modernisation projects, it has become one of Malaysia’s busiest airports after KLIA.
